Essentia lauded as leader in health care technology

Essentia Health was cited as a leader in technology by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives for the second consecutive year.

Health care organizations are recognized for their information-technology achievements and receive certifications through the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives Digital Health Most Wired program. Organizations are certified as level 1-10; those at level nine or 10 are considered leaders in technology.

Essentia’s acute and ambulatory settings are certified level nine, meaning it was in the top 1% of organizations that were graded. Only 107 of the more than 36,000 graded organizations were awarded level nine or 10, according to Chuck Watson, Essentia’s chief information officer.

“Our outstanding ranking stems from how well we implement updates to the functionality of our electronic medical record, Epic, which is a popular and pervasive software solution for health care systems,” according to the news release.

Prior to March 2020, Essentia had never conducted a virtual visit. But in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it rolled out that option and was performing more than 3,500 per day within weeks, and within a year had done more than 400,000 virtual visits, according to officials.

“Essentia has accomplished a significant shift in the past year to move to a virtual health care world, with the impressive expansion of e-visits and telehealth services,” Nicole Pavlovich, Essentia senior project manager for information systems, stated in the news release.
